An interview with Wolfram von Stauffenberg
W. v. Stauffenberg's first chessboxing fight in Cologne and his preparations for London.
WCBO: What are your experiences you made during your first chessboxing fight?
W. v. Stauffenberg: I was a little bit surprised that it started quite calmly. I felt relaxed, fit and didn't have any problems with my physical condition. In the first boxing round my opponent boxed rather aggressively so I chose a defensive strategy. What surprised me was my opponent's impact hardness. His punches were considerably hard.

WCBO: How did you find out about chessboxing?
W. v. Stauffenberg: Andreas Dilschneider (the WCBO spokesman) met 3 years ago. He told me about chessboxing, knowing that I was an amateur boxer and a chess player. I liked the idea of merging two sports that seem to be as different as chalk and cheese. It made me really curious and so I went to the chess boxing club berlin gym to get a taste of it.
WCBO: What's the difference between classic boxing and chessboxing?
W. v. Stauffenberg: As for boxing, it's both easier and more difficult or let's say more dangerous because during the chess rounds you can physically rest and your body has time to recreate. This leads to an increased impact hardness during the boxing rounds.

WCBO: How do you prepare for your upcoming fight in London - which is a rematch against Andrew Costello?
W. v. Stauffenberg: Well I'm practicing weight training, I do sprints and sparring. I've changed my diet and I train chess with Andreas Dilschneider for 1 hour per day. I'm planning to knock out my opponent by the 3rd round - the rest is top secret and the walls have ears.
WCBO: Thank you and good luck!
